Double glory on 2nd June for our Girls & Boys football teams in the West Cork Sciath na Scol Chorcaí finals. They had 2 fine wins, the girls defeated Coppeen N.S, while the boys overcame Carrigboy N.S. Huge well done to all the children involved along with the two team Captains Carla O’Regan & Aodh Whooley on this amazing achievement. Thanks to their coaches Ms and John Sheehy – all the hard work paid off! Match reports from our two captains below.
Match report by Carla O’Regan: On Thursday 2nd June we were over in Dunmanway playing against Coppeen in the Sciath na Scol Girls Final. We started strongly against out opposition. They weren’t as strong as a team as we were but still put on a good performance. We were a much more physical and skilled team as was demonstrated by Sanne with her banger of a goal! At the start of the 2nd half, Coppeen got a quick few goals but we also had a few great saves by Tiana our goalie. We tried our best for the last 15 minutes and at the final whistle we had won well 10-12 to 3-3. Our scorers were: Carla (7-4) Maria (1-5) Ellen (1-1) Sanne (1-0) Izzy (0-1) and Neasa (0-1)
Match report by Aodh Whooley: The boys also won well with a score of 8-13 to 3-3. The lads were always winning with the lowest lead being 3 points. The other team put up a great game until half time but then we ran away with the match in the second half. Overall it was a great team performance! At full time the scorers were: Aodh (4-7) Alex (0-2) Matthew (2-0) Conall (1-3) and Robbie (1-1).
Our teams were honoured & delighted to accept an invite to go to Pairc Ui Chaoimh following their great successes in the Sciath na Scol finals. They had a fantastic experience & proudly paraded at the half time interval of the Senior Men’s Cork V Limerick game. Surely it won’t be the last time we’ll see these talented players on the playing field of Pairc Ui Chaoimh!
