With the year that was in and having missed out on many milestones in 5th class also, we decided that 6th class would have a few weeks of fun Fridays! This was kept local and outdoors and was a lovely opportunity to make memories for their last few weeks in Rath NS, culminating in their graduation on Friday 18th. Week one saw us walking to Lough Hyne and onto Highfield for some outdoor fun with Sheelagh Hennessy. We had lots of team building games, fun with nature, a picnic followed by a swim in the lake with their parents.
Week two took us to Baltimore Sailing Club for a fun day on the water. Thanks to BSC for accommodating us and to our past pupil instructors and helpers. Pizza and chips for lunch topped off a super day!
Week three saw the sunshine again as we joined with 5th class for some orienteering in Dromilihy woods. Despite having to search for a few stray children, we had a great day, made all the sweeter with refreshing icecream afterwards!
The final friday was our graduation. Due to restrictions this had to be online again this year for the parents & families but the most important thing was that 6th class were present. They spent the morning signing each other’s tshirts before meeting the other classes outdoors one by one to say their goodbyes. Our online ceremony started at 11.30 and the benefit of online meant that we had some family from Colombia & France join us along with our local families. After some speeches and a poem by 6th class, we watched a photostory of their years in Rath NS. This was followed by refreshments and treats before heading off to an awaiting guard of honour outside. Parents greeted them as they left us and continuing with past traditions, they headed off cycling to the village. Apparently they got a huge welcome once they arrived there with both people cheering and cars beeping.
They are a fantastic bunch of pupils and we wish them all the very best as they enter into their next chapter of education.
