As always it’s been a busy start to the new academic year at Rath NS and it was great to have some lovely weather in September to ease us back into the school routine. We were delighted to welcome our new Junior Infants and all new students in other classes. We wish them all happy times at Rath N.S. It has been really super so far this year to see how involved our pupils are becoming when collaborating with the teachers to make decisions across a variety of areas within our wonderful school. We currently have three thriving pupil committees – Student Council, Green School and Active Committees. Well done to all those who put so much time and thought into these.
Our pupils have thrown themselves into a wide range of activities this term. They have been enjoying all areas of the curriculum whilst also celebrating lots of other special occasions such as Roald Dahl Day, Maths Week, Space Week of course Halloween to name but a few. We were delighted to welcome back Martina French who teaches tin whistle and music appreciation to 1st to 6th Class. Our infant classes also explore music with Martina through the use of percussion instruments. Another firm favourite has been weekly football with Dominic Casey and TY students from Ilen Rovers. It’s fantastic to see the children enjoying the game and their skills improving as the weeks go on. We’ve also had two great additions to our outside space which the children enjoy at breaktimes – seating pods and a climbing wall. We have also had new shelving installed in the corridor to facilitate our wide range of library books. Huge thanks to Padraig Kiely for doing such a fantastic job on them. In the week before mid term we ran a Scholastic bookfair which was a great success. Not only did it provide the children to purchase some great books it also earned us new school books for the library. Many thanks to Tom and Rachael Flannery from our wonderful Parents Association for helping to run it.
We celebrated SNA Appreciation Day on 25th September 2025 and it was a great opportunity to thank our wonderful SNAs – Maureen, Flor and Ellie – for all their amazing work at Rath NS. Flor will be retiring in November after many happy years with us and we wish all the very best for the next chapter of her life. No doubt she will be spending plenty of time spoiling her beloved grandchildren!
